There are actually so many reasons that brought about the
creation of response cards. One of them is spoiling of catered
food during occasions since most of the invited guests weren't
able to show up. Or there are so many uninvited guests that have
been sent to proxy the invited individuals and since they are to
attend an "alien" party they would often time brought along some
of their friends. Another is for safety reasons like to prevent
party crashers and thieves posing as guest to just join in the
party.
RSVP Cards vs. Response Cards
You must be wondering what sets response cards apart from RSVP
invitations? The difference lies on the formality of how
response and RSVP cards are worded. The RSVP cards are often
times worded in a less formal manner, guests are usually asked
to check either the box that says attending or not attending. On
the other hand, response cards are more formal and more detailed
since its not only the names of attending guests that are
required but also the number of people that they are going to
bring along with them or if not the number of individuals that
would pose for them.
Problems with Response Cards
But just like the use of RVSP cards there are also some problems
with response cards that may be met along the way. One problem
is when your guest forgets to write their names or have written
illegibly. You may solve this problem by assigning each of your
guests a corresponding number and then discreetly writing the
number on the back of the response cards. This way even if your
guests forgets to write their names or had written illegibly you
may still know from whom the response card came from.
Another thing, if you are to create a fill-in-the-blank type of
response cards try to leave some space where your guests may
write their messages to you. And of course you may keep these
response cards as part of your memorabilia. Moreover, if you
want to know the number of attending guests (plus their own
brought along guests) you may provide for a slot wherein they
may place the number.
And then have your response card pre-addressed and stamped for
return mailing or you may include your telephone number, mobile
phone number and email address where your guests may be able to
reach you. For large families you may include a slot wherein
they may put how many of them are attending the ceremony and how
many are attending the reception but be very careful with your
words since there is that danger you may offend your guests.
